Xiang Zhang

Born in the Year of the Horse, Xiang Zhang (pronounced “Shong Zang”) grew up in China and developed an early appreciation for both portraiture and equine subjects. After graduating from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing, he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. Upon relocating to Texas, Zhang combined his passions for painting horses and human figures to create a distinctive artistic voice. Inspired by his observations on working ranches, his work reflects the close, symbiotic relationship between the cowboy and his horse. Utilizing scintillating colors and bold, expressive brushwork, he captures the drama and vitality of ranch life with a style uniquely his own.

Zhang’s work has been featured in prestigious national exhibitions, including the Prix de West Invitational at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Night of Artists at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, and Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum of the American West in Los Angeles. He has also held numerous successful solo exhibitions, and his paintings have been featured in Western Traditions, Contemporary Artists of the American West, Art of the West, Southwest Art Collector, and Fine Art Connoisseur.

He resides in Dallas, Texas, with his wife, Lily. Xiang Zhang is represented by Southwest Art Gallery in Dallas and McLarry Fine Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
