Collection: Craig Tennant

Craig Tennant*

Born in 1946 and raised in New Jersey, Craig Tennant began his career in the New York advertising world in the late 1960s, transitioning to full-time illustration by 1970. Over the next two decades, he established a successful freelance career, creating high-profile work for TV Guide, Field & Stream, Sports Illustrated, IBM, and Coca-Cola. In 1980, he was elected to the New York Society of Illustrators.

In 1989, Tennant relocated to Colorado to focus exclusively on painting the American West. His work is included in prominent collections such as The Anschutz Collection, the Eiteljorg Museum, and the Booth Western Art Museum. In 2023, three of his paintings were featured in Ken Burns’ PBS documentary The American Buffalo. Tennant’s Western scenes have also appeared on covers and in stories for Art of the West, Southwest Art, Western Lifestyles, Wild West, The Equine Image, and Muzzleloader.

A Master Signature Member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), Tennant has received numerous accolades, including Buyer’s Choice Awards and the Frederic Remington Painting Award from Prix de West, People’s Choice Awards from the Coors Western Art and Stampede Western Invitationals, and Silver and Bronze Awards from the OPA Masters.

Today, Tennant paints from his Colorado studio, offering his original works to collectors through his Private Mailing List, continuing his lifelong dedication to capturing the spirit and beauty of the American West.
