Alfredo Rodriguez

Alfredo Rodriguez is an internationally recognized artist celebrated for his masterful depictions of the American West. His vivid portrayals of mountains, deserts, and Indian villages capture the dignity of their inhabitants while reflecting the majesty of their surroundings. Painting has been integral to Rodriguez’s life since childhood, beginning with a set of watercolors his mother gave him at age six and early school drawings and family portraits.

Born and raised in Tepic, Mexico, in a family of nine, Rodriguez used his talent to help support his family. At fourteen, he won a gold medal for an oil painting at the Exposición de Arte Internacional in Tepic. He immigrated to the United States in 1975 and later became an American citizen. Despite no formal training, he has earned numerous accolades, including the 2023 Sam Houston Award for Best Painting at the Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Night of Artists exhibition, and was named “Artist of the Year” by the Favell Museum of Western Art in 1991.

Rodriguez has participated in prominent exhibitions such as Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum and Night of Artists at the Briscoe Western Art Museum. At the 2005 Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival, his poster After the Rendezvous set the record for the highest auction bid. His work has appeared in Art of the West, Southwest Art, International Fine Art Collector, and in books including Western Painting Today and Contemporary Western Artist.

His paintings are held in major museum collections, including the Briscoe Western Art Museum, Booth Western Art Museum, Pearce Western Art Museum, and the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art, as well as in private collections of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Autry, Miss Connie Stevens, Mrs. Pilar Wayne, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Eubanks. Rodriguez’s work is represented by Trailside Galleries in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Settlers West Gallery in Tucson, Arizona. In 2007, Heritage Gallery published Alfredo Rodriguez: A Life in Color, chronicling his first thirty years as an artist.
