Grant Redden
Grant Redden was born and raised on a sheep and cattle ranch in southwest Wyoming. Ranch work—always a family endeavor—instilled in him a deep affection for the landscape, animals, and people of the American West. Horses were central to daily life on the ranch, from camp horses and summer pack strings to the teams used for hauling camps and feeding livestock during harsh winters. Naturally, they have become a prominent element in his artwork. Redden believes that these animals possess distinct personalities and characteristics, which he strives to portray faithfully in his paintings.
A descendant of pioneer families, Redden developed a strong attachment to both the land and Western life, along with a lasting interest in the region’s history. With an innate creative instinct, he finds beauty in the everyday activities and simple rhythms of Western living. His dedication extends not only to subject matter but also to the craft of painting itself—design, color, texture, and emotional resonance all play essential roles in his work. He continues to study the great masters of painting and sculpture, drawing from their example while cultivating his own artistic voice.
Redden was inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America in 2012. Since then, he has received six Gold Medals and two Silver Medals in oil painting, a Silver Medal in watercolor, the Ann Marion Best of Show Award in 2017, and has been a three-time recipient of the Artists’ Choice Award for Best Group of Paintings at the annual CAA exhibition. He has been a participating artist in the Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale since 2022, and in 2024 he was honored with the Wilson Hurley Memorial Award for Outstanding Landscape.
Grant and his wife, Annette, raised eight children on a small expanse of sagebrush and aspen groves in southwest Wyoming. He continues his lifelong pursuit of artistic growth and personal discovery—“just trying to get better.”
