Collection: Dustin Payne

Dustin Payne

Dustin Payne is recognized for his masterful bronze sculptures that portray the history, character, and spirit of the American West. Working in a traditional style, he skillfully captures the emotion, authenticity, and intricate detail that define the Western way of life.

Born in 1981 into a rodeo and ranching family in southern New Mexico, Payne grew up immersed in the culture he now celebrates through his art. As a third-generation sculptor, he began learning the craft at an early age. His artistic development was shaped by close study of the great Western masters—Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell—and by the illustrations and writings of Will James. Proximity to his family’s ranch provided him with firsthand experience of Western traditions, informing the accuracy and vitality of his subjects.

Payne’s work is represented in several significant public installations. His life-size monument honoring the history of the Texas Rangers, The Legend, The Lore, The Law, was recently relocated to the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas. Additional monumental works include life-size depictions of the legendary cattlemen Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving in Pueblo, Colorado.

In 2017, Payne was inducted into the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America. He earned the Gold Medal for Sculpture at the organization’s 2021 exhibition, as well as the Ray Swanson Memorial Award for Tales of the Trail. In 2025, during his first year participating in the Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Night of Artists, he received the “Cowboy Bob” Museum Purchase Award for his sculpture What Man Can Conceive.
