Collection: McKenna, Mark
Mark McKenna is one of the top emerging artists in the Wes. At thirty-eight years old, Mark McKenna has achieved several major accomplishments, including being in Southwest Art magazine’s prestigious “21 under 31” list of the best young artists in the country in 2014, and having had a painting acquired by the Brinton Museum in Big Horn, Wyoming, for their permanent collection in 2016.
Mark McKenna’s work is inspired by his personal exploits and adventures of capturing the West. Ranging from simple portraits of wild and domestic animals to intense and complex scenes of animals in varying environments, he works tirelessly to portray life and personality in his work—paintings that almost breathe.
Mark McKenna earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in Illustration and has studied under some of the West’s best artists, including Greg Beecham, Grant Redden, Leon Parson, and Jim Wilcox. Subsequently, he has spent thousands of hours at the easel practicing and implementing the techniques and skills gained throughout his education.
Mark McKenna has had his work included in major museum shows across the United States and Canada, including the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming, The Russell at the C. M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, South Carolina, and the Calgary Stampede in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His work is currently represented by Astoria Fine Art in Jackson, Wyoming.
