Kyle Ma

Born in 2000, Kyle Ma discovered a love for art at an early age, inspired by the works of the old masters in museums and art history books. He describes painting as a way to express his personal perspective on the world. In 2010, Kyle moved with his family to Austin, Texas, where he began serious study of oil painting under Elizabeth Locke. There, he learned the importance of a strong foundation in fundamentals for success as a representational artist. He also attended workshops with master artists across the country to further refine his skills. Kyle enjoys painting en plein air, embracing the landscape as an integral part of his creative process.

In 2016, Kyle held his first solo exhibition at Wilcox Gallery, a success that encouraged him to pursue art as a full-time career. Although he earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin, he views his scientific training as enhancing his observational skills—an essential aspect of his art.

Kyle’s work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationwide and has earned several awards, including the Gold Medal at the 30th Annual Oil Painters of America National Show. He is a Master Signature Member of Oil Painters of America and a member of Plein Air Painters of America and the Salmagundi Club. His work has appeared on the covers of American Art Collector and PleinAir Magazine and has been featured in Southwest Art, Art of the West, Fine Art Connoisseur, Western Art Collector, and other prominent publications. Kyle teaches workshops worldwide and has presented at the Plein Air Convention and the Portrait Society of America’s conference.

“Painting, to me, is an extremely passionate experience. I paint as much as I can and hope to communicate to the viewer what I saw and felt each time I pick up a brush,” he says.
