When Texas native Joshua LaRock returned home after years of travel and study, the call of the West could not be ignored. Like the members of the Taos Society of Artists, LaRock is a classically trained painter inspired by the European masters, and it was a chance trip to the Southwest that sparked his first Western series. His technical mastery ranks among the finest in contemporary painting, blending the calming sensitivity of the Old Masters with the grit and spirit of the American West.

LaRock has received international recognition as a leading figurative artist. His portrait Laura in Black was selected for the prestigious BP Portrait Award 2016 exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. He has participated in exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and China, is recognized as an Art Renewal Center Living Master, and is in high demand as a workshop instructor. His work has been featured in major museum exhibitions, including the Autry Museum’s Masters of the American West and the Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Night of Artists. Most recently, his painting Monument Valley was acquired by the Booth Western Art Museum for its permanent collection.

LaRock’s artwork has appeared in publications such as Western Art Collector, The Artist’s Magazine, Fine Art Today, Fine Art Connoisseur, PleinAir, Art of the West, and Southwest Art.

Today, LaRock continues to explore the West, creating contemporary scenes infused with classic nostalgia and rendered with a masterful, timeless touch.
