Martin Grelle
Born and raised in Clifton, Texas, Martin Grelle resides with his wife, Joyce, on a ranch just a few miles from town. His studio is situated in the Meridian Creek Valley, nestled among the rolling hills of Bosque County and only a short distance from his home.
Grelle began painting at a young age and received early mentorship from artist James Boren. Within a year of graduating from high school, he held his first solo exhibition at a local gallery. Since then, he has presented more than thirty one-man shows and has earned numerous awards at exhibitions across the country.
In 1995, Grelle was inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America. He also participated in the inaugural Prix de West Invitational at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. His accolades include the Prix de West Purchase Award, the Nona Jean Hulsey Rumsey Buyers’ Choice Award, the CA Buyers’ Choice Award, the Silver Awards for Water Solubles and Oil, the Gold Award for Drawing, the Legacy Award from the Briscoe Western Art Museum, and the Spirit of the West Award from the San Dimas Festival of Arts.
Grelle’s work has been featured in The Masters at the Autry Museum, Quest for the West at the Eiteljorg Museum, the Coeur d’Alene Auction, and the Jackson Hole Art Auction. His paintings have also appeared in numerous publications, including Art of the West, Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, Western Art & Architecture, and True West’s 2011 Best of the West Source Book.
