Mikel Donahue

Born 1956, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States

Mikel Donahue, a multiple award-winning member of the Cowboy Artists of America, is renowned for his exceptionally detailed and faithful depictions of cowboy life. His drawings and paintings capture ranches, livestock, and the rhythms of daily work—transforming what may appear to be ordinary chores into moments of quiet meaning and reflection through his distinctive artistic style.

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Donahue learned the realities of ranch life from his paternal grandfather, who raised cattle in northeastern Oklahoma. His maternal grandfather introduced him to Western art at an early age through memorable visits to Tulsa’s Gilcrease Museum and to what was then the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. Inspired both by the working ranch and by the iconic art of Charlie Russell, Frederic Remington, and other Western masters, Donahue has built a life and career that reflects the best of both worlds.

Today, he and his wife, Christie, raise racing Quarter Horses on their property outside Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, while he continues to pursue an acclaimed career in the arts.
